Living landscapes are a series of paintings exploring our relationship with the environment. Organic materials form the surface of these landscapes, evoking a sensory and immersive experience just like in nature. All the plant and animal materials are recycled and ethically sourced. The idea originated a year ago at the Salmela Art Centre’s Young Artists’ Residency.
Some of the paintings contemplate the future of meadow plants. Meadows are one of the most endangered environment types in Europe, with only 5% of meadows still left in Finland. Our most delicate native flowers now live as refugees along ditches, roadsides and abandoned plots. Are these the next names to end up on the endangered species list?
